about
me
My name is Ruth and my weapons of choice are sarcasm and good grammar. I like Chuck, Inception, Doctor Who, Richard Siken and reading fiction, nonfiction and IKEA catalogues. I write fiction, fanfiction and poetry, none of them especially well.

the blog
The blog’s name, Adjectives of Order, as well as the title– “the city sweltering streets”– is from Alexander Teague’s poem of the same name. The order of adjectives, a part of English grammar, refers to the sequence in which adjectives, words of description, are placed: size before age, shape before color, origin before purpose. Still, it becomes slowly evident how inadequate this listing system is. (“He wanted to know if his brothers were lost before/older“; how does one quantify this?)
What I need to remember is this: no matter what the grammar says, it is never enough. Pedantry is no excuse for ignorance.
I post mostly rants about bad grammar, rants about the local newspaper, or wordy posts about the many television shows I watch. I routinely write incredibly long posts attempting to convince phantom readers to watch the show I am currently enamoured with.
